Secretary Rubio’s visit has happened in the context of President Trump saying that «Italy wasn’t there when the United States needed it», and he talked about the possibility of withdrawing some troops from U.S. bases in Italy. But I also know that this was a very «frank and constructive» attempt to talk in Italy. You were there, of course. What were the accomplishments of this visit, and what does the United States want from Italy as an ally?
«Well, look, as the Secretary of State said after the meetings, there are certain things that we think we all should agree upon, that the Iranian regime shouldn’t have a nuclear weapon, that we can’t have a country deciding who gets to use an international waterway, then that’s not something we can normalize.
